Freud Says You Can Shove It Up Your @?*&
This is an unplanned journal post. I'm temporarily shelving my overdue Post of Gloat (which...I am so looking forward to...heh) and a serious post that I've been pondering for some time, to bring you a little window into my soul. A journal post that will help you get to know me a little better, as it were, and therefore, help those who would date me, befriend me, or just try to get into my pants. Are you ready?
The fact that I have a degree in Psychology does not make a me a nicer person than average, nor does it mean I give two figs about your feelings.
Seriously. If I had a nickel for every person who sent me a private message that said something along the lines of:
I see you have a degree in psychology. So how come you were so meeeean to meeee?
or
You have worked as a therapist, so how come you told that guy he was being a douchebag instead of finding out whhhhhyyy he's a douchebag?
You know why I didn't? Because I don't care. I don't care and Douchebag didn't pay me. Ergo, Douchebag is just a Douchebag.
Let me break through some stereotypes for you:
* Not all psychiatrists think every child should be on Ritalin. Nor that everyone should be on anti-depressants. Just people who wear all black and listen to crappy emo music.
* Not every psychologist thinks that every douchebag habit you have can be traced back to not being breastfed long enough/too long/with the wrong set of breasts.
* Not all therapists want to hear your problems outside of work. Actually, scratch that--no therapist wants to hear the problems of random people all the time outside of work. Sometimes not even while working.
* Not all mental health researchers want to examine every aspect of an online community for some paper to be written in the future.
I may understand hidden motivations or group dynamics better than people who have not studied in the same fields. But sweet cripes, if you think that I'm going to be applying those skills towards holding everyone's hand and asking them about their feeeeeelings all the time, you just haven't been paying attention.
In other words, if you are not my friend or paying me, do not expect me to care any more about your little neuroses than any other person. In short...not much at all.
