Quick! Remember your highschool English class!

Pop quiz, peeps. I got into a discussion today about the literature that we covered as standard when we were in school and the differences between the American curriculum and the British--which then turned into an examination of the Finnish. Of course, that evolved into a discussion about the changes that have happened in our home countries over the years.

So, help out--tell me what the major books/poems/snippets of literature you covered in school and roughly when you read them/were exposed to them and which country it was in.

For example:

Up to middle school in the 80s, I covered The Red Badge of Courage, Pilgram's Progress, The Old Man and the Sea and "The Charge of the Light Brigade".

In highschool in the 90s, I covered: The Iliad, The Odyssey, Edith Hamilton's Mythology, the epic of Gilgamesh, Beowulf, As I Lay Dying, Sons and Lovers, and The House of Mirth.

All of this was done in public school in the States.

Clearly, this isn't everything I read, but it gives a broad feel. Are there any that you didn't cover or those that you did that stuck out for you? To be fair, make sure you only bring up books that were covered in school--we're trying to get a feel for what the curriculums were/are. No throwing off the curve with a few book nerds. :)
